ABSTRACT

This paper aims to understand the experiences lived from practices developed in a public Elementary School II in the State of Rio de Janeiro, based on research contributions that intended to understand how teachers searches and their appropriations in the uses of digital technologies in network. With a view to these narratives and conversations with teachers, we have as a cut the timeframe that covers the second half of 2019 to the second half of 2021, therefore being crossed by the virus pandemic SARS CoV-2, before the importance of developing multiple literacies 'teacherstudents'. To do so, we focus on the studies of Rojo (2013) and Street (2014), as a social practice and expansion of knowledge, seeking meaningful learning. Thus, from the point of view of three professors, authors of this article, in the perspective of an ethno-research that is constituted through a way of thinking about the phenomena and experiences lived by a certain group (ARDOINO, 1998;MACEDO, 2010). We also consider the daily lives of teachers, practitioners of this study, respecting the sociocultural diversity and plurality present in the school.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: to analyze the scientific evidence on the impairment of integrality of the older person after cases of violence during the COVID-19 pandemic METHOD: Integrative review of articles in the Virtual Health Library (VHL), SCIELO (Scientific Electronic Library Online), LILACS (Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences), BDENF (Nursing Database), PubMed, published in the last five years, from the descriptors: Elder Abuse, Elderabuse, Elderly (Aged), Violence, Pandemic by COVID-19 (COVID-19 pandemic). For improvement, the PRISMA flowchart was used. RESULTS: Five articles were identified that cases of violence against the older person had a great increase in the pandemic due to social isolation, which affect the integrality of the older person through physical, psychological and social aspects. CONCLUSION: The study brings great relevance to the current scenario and to the sectors interested in cases of violence against the old person that have a considerable increase in current society, especially in times of pandemic.

ABSTRACT

Background: Telemedicine is a useful tool in the control of patients with rheu-matological conditions, even more so in the pandemic period. The evolution of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) treated exclusively under this modality has been scarcely described. Objectives: Evolution of clinical activity in RA patients controlled exclusively by the synchronous telemedicine (ST) modality in the COVID-19 pandemic period. Methods: An observational study was carried out.Two group of patients were analyzed separately, frst group who had been treated using ST before the declaration of a health emergency in Colombia in march 2020 and second who were admitted to ST after this date. ST consists of a real-time video call with a trained general physician help on the referral site to performed physical examination. Assessments of disease activity was measured by DAS28 using C-reactive protein. Results: Data was obtained from 150 and 65 patients in the frst and second group. For the frst group, more than a half of the patients had 2 controls with DAS28 assessment after march 2020, only 33% obtained 3 assessments, and very few with 4 or more. We found that the number of patients with high activity decreased signifcantly from 10% to 3%, remission increased from 44% to 50% and low activity from 14% to 19%, without major changes in the moderate activity group that remained close to a third. Same tendencies happened in group 2, with a difference in reduction of the moderate activity group from 44% to 38% (Figure 1) Conclusion: When in person attention with rheumatologist is not possible, tele-medicine is a useful and efficient way to control patients with RA, mainly fnding a reduction in high activity and an increase patients in remission.

ABSTRACT

This review study is important to elucidate the effects of the virus on the central nervous system, allowing greater knowledge about the effect of the virus and how some neurological disorders develop after contamination by Covid-19. Although much research is being done on the current pandemic, there is still much to be studied to ensure the health of the population. Some symptoms of this virus can be confused with other diseases, but their identification is made only by laboratory means. The present study can contribute to research and assist in the process of disseminating knowledge to identify possible pathologies associated with the disease. This work can be deepened, contributing with new research and knowledge about this topic.

ABSTRACT

In this work, the role of chemistry in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is highlighted through the medical oxygen supply crises in Brazil, as an example of oxygen utility in health. Starting from oxygen chemical characterization, the oxygen cycle in nature is discussed to show how oxygen is formed through photosynthesis, followed by the description of the industrial oxygen production from atmospheric air, including physical-chemical aspects. The use of medical oxygen concentrator is presented and how this device works from the chemical point of view. Besides, the noninvasive and painless oximetry is described in terms of how oxygen saturation level in blood is measured using LED - light emitting diode. © 2022 Sociedade Brasileira de Quimica. ABSTRACT

Objectives: To determine the evolution in the clinical activity of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) controlled exclusively by the synchronous telemedicine modality in the post-COVID-19 pandemic period. Methods: An observational study was carried out of patients with RA who were treated using the synchronous telemedicine modality prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and who continued or who were admitted after the declaration of a health emergency in Colombia, which were analyzed as a separate group. Assessments of disease activity measured by DAS28 using C-reactive protein are shown. Results: In the period between March 15 of 2020 and April 15 of 2021, data was obtained from150 patients under follow-up and 65who were admitted after the declaration of a health emergency. Of the first group, a little more than half of the patients had 2 evaluations during this period with DAS28 assessment, only 33% obtained 3 assessments, and very few with 4 or more. We found that the number of patients with high activity decreased significantly (from 10% to 3%) and that of remission increased (44% to 50%) and low activity (14% to 19%) without major changes in the moderate activity group that remained close to a third (Figure 1). The same happened in the post-pandemic group, with a difference in reduction of the moderate activity group (44% to 38%) (Figure 2). Conclusion: Similar to other studies, telemedicine is a useful and effectiveway to control patients with RA, mainly finding a reduction in patients with high activity and an increase in patients in remission.

ABSTRACT

IntroductionOPEN is a structured intervention program for patients who present with untreated psychosis at an early stage, under the guidance of a case manager and a periodic evaluation performed by a multidisciplinary team.ObjectivesThe aim of the OPEN program is to create an individual care plan, promoting recovery, functionality, quality of life and prevent relapses. One year after implementation of the program, we present the first results.MethodsWe performed a retrospective review of the patients’ clinical profiles included in the OPEN program.ResultsNine patients were included in the program. The most frequent diagnosis was schizophrenia (n=5). By the time of inclusion in the program, 5 patients used cannabis frequently;one patient kept substance use. At the 6th month assessment, 4 in 5 patients showed an improvement in social functioning (Personal and Social Performance Scale;± 16 points), and a decrease in symptom severity in all (Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale;± 11 points). Due to COVID-19 pandemics, group interventions were suspended, and some visits were performed by teleconsultation. No patients lost follow-up.ConclusionsWe observed an overall positive result of the first months of this program, regarding both functionality and clinical outcomes. The main obstacle so far is the impossibility of performing group interventions since the start of the contingency measures regarding COVID-19 pandemics. We expect further results of the OPEN program with the inclusion of more patients.

ABSTRACT

The advent of a potential pandemic worldwide alerted educational institutions to take preventive measures in order to implement the best strategy. This investigation reports on a pilot study that intended to establish the benefits of transitioning to either an online or a blended-learning modes. To this end, we firstly analysed academic performance and time spent on a set of online activities completed by language learners at beginner and upper-intermediate levels. Secondly, student location was also examined, and it was found that it has a strong relationship with academic performance based on the average grades. Statistical analyses of variance and regression models were carried out, to analyse the importance of the factors in the outcome variable. In addition, a test was done to compare performance between the study groups. Based on student location in combination with the other variables, it was possible to monitor that the students performed academically better when off-campus. This led us to the preliminary conclusion that moving to a fully online or blended-learning mode, either due to the pandemic or an independent decision, students would perform equally, if not better, than when on-campus. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.

ABSTRACT

This work deals with a new proposal that is the concept of the responsible guardianship of nature and animals-a concept that is an evolution of the concept of responsible pet ownership. The challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic point to the importance of establishing this new expansion of the responsible guardianship concept which, having as a theoretical premises not only pathocentric ethics, but also a biocentric ethics of care, would therefore seek to extend the circle of protection offered by the concept of responsible pet care that would advance from companion animals to encompass other sentient beings and finally encompass nature in general. It is an expansion that would be carried out under the holistic perspective of one health, that is, environmental, animal and human. Thus, responsible guardianship would be understood from a double perspective in which it would be considered as much a set of legal duties that guardians would have towards animals and the environment that would be under their protection, as a set of public policies that the State should carry out in favour of these animals and of nature as a whole. © 2020, International Center for Animal Law and Policy. ABSTRACT

Objectives: to analyze the social support network, the activities performed, and the factors associated with the presence of negative feelings of aged individuals who live alone during social distancing due to COVID-19. Method: a cross-sectional study conducted with 119 aged individuals who live alone in the Macro-region of Triângulo Sul, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The data were collected at the homes and with instruments validated in the country. Descriptive and multiple binary regression analyses were performed (p<0.05). Results: 97.5% had a social support network for health needs and for maintaining social distancing (79.8%). The activity most frequently performed was household chores (77.3%). The presence of negative feelings was associated with the female gender (p<0.001) and with fewer activities (p=0.012). Conclusion: the data contribute to the development of health actions, revealing situations in the daily life of aged individuals that are exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as aspects related to the negative feelings experienced by aged individuals who live alone. © 2022, Universidade Federal do Parana.
